New York City, NY, June 29, 2020 — Since mid-April 2020, New York City has used Healthix and Bronx RHIO data, such as patient demographic information, next of kin, and real-time alerts of hospital admissions/discharges, to locate missing persons.
New York City’s Mayor, Bill de Blasio, activated the Unified Victim Identification System (UVIS) in mid-April to capture missing person reports. Once captured, the health department’s staff scans the Healthix and Bronx RHIO portals for each person to track hospital encounter data. After identifying a patient match, staff enters notes in UVIS for the New York City Police Department.
Healthix and Bronx RHIO’s HIE data has assisted in finding 62 missing persons in hospitals and has identified 38 patients who have passed away.
