University of Colorado Medicine (CU Medicine), formerly University Physicians, Inc., is dedicated to providing business operations and administrative support to nearly 3,000 active University of Colorado School of Medicine clinical healthcare providers. When CU Medicine chose HealthShare Foundation as its strategic integration platform, they brought in J2 to set up their HealthShare environment, establish best practices, and migrate several mission-critical interfaces from GE to HealthShare. These interfaces—which included incoming inpatient, ambulatory, radiology, anesthesia, and pathology feeds from both UCH and CHCO—leveraged complex legacy business rules originally implemented within the GE AES framework. In addition to designing and implementing the HL7 routing and transformation logic, we ported the legacy business rules engine to Caché Objects, dramatically improving the stability, maintainability, and reusability of the codebase.
Since completing the migration effort, J2 has built a number of new interfaces for CU Medicine, including inbound ambulatory visit management registration feeds and multiple patient enrollment interfaces. J2 also built a custom workflow application and related email alerting features to help CU Medicine staff manage incoming data feeds, analyze the quantity and quality of charges, and respond to exceptions. We continue to support CU Medicine’s investment in HealthShare with a full range of services including technology strategy and architecture, systems support and upgrades, integration, custom application development, and knowledge transfer to the CU Medicine technical team.
