Gov. Steve Bullock and Montana’s State HIE, Big Sky Care Connect, Prepare for Launch

HELENA, MT, October 1, 2020 — Today, Big Sky Care Connect (BSCC) and Gov. Steve Bullock discussed the HIE’s roll-out plan in the upcoming months.

Montana was one of just three states without a state-designated HIE. This situation changed in 2020 when BSCC decided to take part in expanding interoperability in Montana to serve the state’s approximately one million residents by increasing the exchange of health information through a variety of secure electronic means.

“A statewide health information exchange brings providers together to collectively use common sense and secure technology to improve health outcomes for Montanans,” said Gov. Bullock.

InterSystems has assisted in the stand up of BSCC since the beginning, designing, developing, and implementing a customized HIE platform with a suite of supporting applications to enable novel technology and be compatible with current HIE standards.

More information on the joint discussions is available on The Roundup, a local publication that serves Western North Dakota and Eastern Montana.

Update:

Furthering its core strategy of improving health outcomes, BSCC recently selected HealthTerm, a managed terminology solution that is being hosted by J2 interactive.

Terminology services allow HIEs such as BSCC to provide consistent, normalized descriptions for diagnoses, labs, and other clinical data across all participating health systems’ EHRs and coding systems.

The managed terminology implementation will allow BSCC participants to have more accurate analytics and actionable events—thereby increasing the value the Montana HIE brings to the residents it serves.
